The North Little Rock metropolitan area is a shopping mecca offering an impressive variety of retail facilities that draws customers from all over the state. In a U.S. Department of Commerce publication, the "Census of Retail Trade" the Little Rock/North Little Rock MSA has continued to attract an increasing share of the retail dollars spent in Arkansas. Retail sales within the MSA totaled over six billion dollars with North Little Rock attracting 18.4 cents of every retail dollar spent. North Little Rock ranked second in retail sales within the MSA when compiled by cities.

McCain Mall, the states largest fully enclosed mall, is the dominant shopping center in Arkansas. With 731,755 square feet, the mall attracts almost 10 million shoppers annually (with sales between $140 and $150 million annually) to its location at the intersection of McCain Boulevard and U.S. Highways 67/167.

Within a 5-miles radius of McCain Mall, the estimated population (including parts of Sherwood, AR) is 80,000 with an income range of $18,000 to $120,000+. This is the largest concentration of retail space in the state with five of Arkansas top 25 shopping centers located within a one-mile radius.

The Other Center, across McCain Boulevard from the Mall has undergone a $1 million renovation. Across Highway 67/167 is the Market Plaza Shopping Center and the McCain Plaza with 300,000 square feet, a fourth center on the southeast corner of this busy intersection, which opened in 1991. McCain Plaza is the newest addition to the McCain area with two major retailers currently building on site.

Lakewood Village is a shopping park featuring specialty stores and some of the areas most popular restaurants. Two of the states highest grossing restaurants are located within this four-block area.

In all, North Little Rock features 10 of the areas largest shopping centers, which combine to offer more than 2.3 million square feet of retail space. The rate of retail space occupancy is 96%.
