Medical Facilities in North Little Rock
The metropolitan area of Central Arkansas has gained recognition
as a major medical center for the region, with outstanding care
and research facilities. Seventeen hospitals in the area are licensed
to operate more than 5,500 beds and more than three dozen nursing
homes include about 5,000 beds. A number of specialty clinics -
including radiation therapy and outpatient surgery services - expand
the scope and quality of care available.
BAPTIST
HEALTH MEDICAL CENTER-NORTH LITTLE ROCK
In November 1999, Baptist Health Medical Center-North Little
Rock opened a state-of-the-art, multimillion-dollar facility.
This 205-bed facility is on Spring Hill Drive, northeast of
the intersection of Interstate 40 and U. S. Highway 67/167,
in North Little Rock.
Also in the Baptist Health Organization is the 787-bed Baptist
Medical Center in Little Rock, as well as the 120-bed Arkansas
Rehabilitation Institute adjoining it. This facility is owned
and operated by the Baptist Health Care Systems.
Baptist Health Medical Center-North Little Rock, a private,
not-for-profit-facility, observed its 40th anniversary in 2002.
The three-story hospital houses inpatient beds and support
areas, including invasive diagnostic and treatment services,
and the emergency department. Patient care centers provide a
total of 205 patient rooms designed to function as critical
care, private, or semiprivate rooms.

Primary medical facilities around North
Little Rock:
St. Vincent Medical Center/North (2215 Wildwood
Ave.; (501) 552-7100) offers specialties of cardiology, orthopedics,
women's and children's services, emergency services and outpatient
and rehabilitation services. This acute-care facility offers a full
range of health care services for the community.
St. Vincent Health South (2201 Wildwood Avenue,
Sherwood; (501) 834-1800) is a 60-bed, freestanding, comprehensive
rehabilitation hospital for the treatment of physical disabilities
and individuals with disabling injuries and/or illnesses. Inpatient
programs include treatments for head and spinal cord injury, multiple
trauma, joint replacement, amputation and chronic pain. A full range
of outpatient therapy is also available, including treatment for
work-related injuries, job site evaluations, ergonomic assessment
and functional capacity evaluations.
The 533-bed Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center
at Fort Roots (220 Fort Roots Dr.; (501) 370-6676) offers military
veterans a complete suite of health services. Many of the buildings
are listed on the National Register.
The Central Arkansas Veterans Healthcare System,
a flagship Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) healthcare provider,
is anchored by two main hospital campuses. The John L. McClellan
Memorial Veterans Hospital in Little Rock delivers acute, tertiary
care in medicine, surgery, and a number of specialties; the Eugene
J. Towbin Healthcare Center in North Little Rock provides long-term,
rehabilitative care for eligible veterans. Each facility houses
a variety of primary care and specialty outpatient clinics. The
two hospitals have a total of 562 operating beds. Of these, 395
are located on the North Little Rock Campus, and include a 152-bed
Nursing Home Care Unit and a 119-bed Domiciliary. Many buildings
on the historic North Little Rock campus (2200 Fort Roots Drive)

The BridgeWay Hospital (21 BridgeWay Road; (501)
771-1500) is a 70-bed private psychiatric hospital located in the
scenic woods of North Little Rock. The hospital staff works as a
team to uphold the BridgeWay's reputation for excellence in helping
patients resolve behavioral health problems. The BridgeWay offers
a full range of psychiatric and substance abuse treatment services
for children, adolescents, and adults. Services include a specialized
neuropsychiatric treatment program for children and adolescents
with impulsive rage behaviors and pathological aggression. The substance
abuse program provides a full continuum of care for adults including
a partial hospital program, and Intensive Outpatient Program, as
well as inpatient treatment.
